Water Management

Water Management

Management Approach:

In response to water scarcity challenges posed by climate change, Bora Pharmaceuticals actively promotes water conservation and reduces water demand in its manufacturing processes. The company also implements water recycling measures to minimize its impact on water resources. Additionally, Bora continuously reviews its water usage, monitors potential water resource risks, and evaluates strategies to improve water use efficiency to ensure the sustainable utilization of water resources.

Policy and Goals

A. Policy

  1. Optimize process design and equipment operation to reduce water demand and enhance water recycling efficiency.
  2. Control wastewater pollutant emissions to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, while promoting wastewater treatment and reuse.
  3. Raise awareness of water resource management within the organization and across the supply chain, fostering a culture of sustainable water use and encouraging shared environmental responsibility.
  4. Adopt innovative technologies and strategies to maximize water use efficiency and mitigate potential risks associated with climate change.

B. Goals

  1. Bora Pharmaceuticals is committed to addressing the challenges of climate change by promoting water conservation and sustainable utilization of water resources. The company aims to ensure a balanced development between production and the environment, gradually achieving the vision of zero water waste.
  2. Starting from 2025, the company will fully implement its water resource management policy, achieving an annual water-saving target of 3% at the Zhunan plant, while continually advancing the implementation of its water resource management system.
  3. Regularly review and monitor water usage, proactively identify and mitigate water scarcity risks, and reduce the impact on water resources through efficient water use and recycling technologies.

Water Resource Utilization Status

The water resources for the Taiwan and Canada facilities primarily come from tap water. The summary of water withdrawal, discharge, and consumption is as follows:

Water Conservation Target Promotion Plan

In 2024, the Zhunan Plant actively promoted a water-saving initiative, focusing on recycling and reusing wastewater from the pure water and hot water preheating tanks. The entire project investment amounted to NT$4,200, effectively reducing water resource wastage and achieving an approximate water-saving rate of 0.4%, with an annual water savings of 438 cubic meters. Looking ahead, to achieve a 3% reduction in per capita water usage across the entire group from 2025 to 2030, Bora plans to implement the following measures:

Group-Wide Water Conservation Measures

Implementation Methods

Improvement of Water-Use Equipment

Replace or upgrade sensor faucets in restrooms at all facilities, and gradually install water-saving valves or replace faucets in pantries with those certified with water-saving labels.

Inspection and Repair of Pipeline Systems

Conduct regular inspections of the pipeline systems for tap water, air conditioning water, firefighting water, and irrigation water at all facilities. If any leakage issues are detected, immediate repairs and improvements will be carried out to reduce unnecessary loss or waste.

Optimization of Water Production and Usage Facilities

Evaluate water production and usage equipment at all facilities, such as cooling towers and pure water systems. By adjusting operating methods or installing monitoring devices, unnecessary discharges can be minimized, further enhancing water-use efficiency. Additionally, we have set water-saving targets for each facility and proposed corresponding action plans.

In addition, we have established water-saving targets for each facility and proposed corresponding water-saving plans as follows:

Facility

2025 Water Conservation Target

Promotion Methods and Investments

Zhunan Facility

13% reduction compared to 2024

1. Phase 1 condensate recovery for air conditioning units, expected expenditure of NT$300,000, anticipated water-saving rate of 3.0%.

2. Repair of underground firefighting pipeline leaks, expected expenditure of NT$1,000,000, anticipated water-saving rate of 10.0%.

Tainan Facility

1% reduction compared to 2024

1. Continue to strengthen inspections for water pipe leaks in the plant area. Due to the abundance of plants and trees in the facility, pipe breakages may easily occur from broken branches or root growth. Collaborate with landscaping teams to enhance inspections and prune trees.

2. Replace inefficient cooling tower air conditioning systems. In 2025, plan to replace the air conditioning system in the product warehouse with an inverter air conditioner to replace the old fixed-frequency water-cooled air conditioning system, which will not only save water but also reduce energy consumption.
