BORA Care in Every Step

Bora Pharmaceuticals Drives Biodiversity Through the Power of Its People

As climate change and the loss of natural capital become defining challenges of our time, the urgency of acting on the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land) has never been greater. For Bora Pharmaceuticals, the above commitments are lived out every day, across every facility, by the people who make up the Bora global family.

Over the years, as Bora has grown its CDMO business with manufacturing sites around the world, the Group has remained steadfast in its belief that global operations and local action must go hand in hand. The Company is building a future where sustainability is a culture.

April 22 is Earth Day. This year, the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet” manifests a call to action rooted in the belief that real, lasting change comes not from top-down, but from all of us, together.

That belief resonates deeply at Bora. We have long understood that caring for human health and caring for the natural world are inseparable. Our mission: Contributing to Better Health All Over the World extends beyond the medicines we make. It encompasses the environment that makes health possible in the first place.

Canada: Where Employees Turned a Quiet Site Into a Living Ecosystem

What began as an ordinary piece of land has become something quietly extraordinary, not through a corporate mandate, but through the initiative and heart of our people.

At our Mississauga site in Cananda, employees have built a Bee Hotel, providing solitary wild bee species with a safe space to shelter and reproduce. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately 75% of the world’s crops depend on pollinators, and yet bee populations are declining due to habitat loss and climate change. By creating safe habitats, our team is doing their part to protect ecosystems and the food systems that depend on them.

The site has also constructed nesting structures to support the Barn Swallow, a species listed as Threatened under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. Outdoor maintenance activities are carefully managed to minimize disruption to their habitat, reflecting a long-term commitment to biodiversity that goes far beyond compliance.

Perhaps most remarkably, employees took it upon themselves to learn about land renaturalization. Invasive European Buckthorn has been removed, and in its place, native plants and Milkweed now grow. The result? Monarch butterflies have returned. The site has since been recognized as a Butterfly Garden by the North American Butterfly Association, a testament to what happens when people care enough to act.

These changes were not handed down. They were grown, from the ground up, by individuals who chose to go further.

Zhunan, Taiwan: Caring for the Land Beyond Our Walls

At the Zhunan facility, the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing base in Taiwan, our commitment to the environment extends into the surrounding community and agricultural land.

Employees have been providing local farmers with microbial solutions based on Bacillus subtilis, helping them decompose agricultural waste and return nutrients directly to the soil. This reduces dependence on open burning, a practice that contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It is a small intervention with a meaningful ripple effect.

Change Begins With People

When each person is willing to give a little more for the environment alongside their daily work, the impact of a company extends far beyond its walls. Sustainability becomes something that is practiced, accumulated, and shared.

As a pharmaceutical company, Bora Group knows that human health and the health of our natural environment are deeply intertwined. Guided by the mission of Contributing to Better Health All Over the World, the Company continues to embed sustainability into global operations and local actions, walking alongside our employees to bring meaningful change to the world, and expanding the meaning of “health” from the medicines we make to the planet we all share.
